Case study: pneumatic test bench with an Arduino based PLC

Case study of a bench model of a box labelling line, built for testing and learning with Industrial Shields equipment. An industrial Arduino based PLC runs a conveyor belt and three pneumatic cylinders: C1 places the box on the belt, C2 puts the label and C3 takes the box out. Two capacitive sensors and six inductive end-of-stroke sensors go to digital inputs; three solenoid valves and the belt motor go to digital outputs. The program is written in the Arduino IDE and follows a GRAFCET of eight steps. The same kind of bench helps integrators, maintenance teams and in-company training to check a sequence before it runs on a machine.

The PDF covers the challenge, the two tests (run the sequence, make a sensor fail), the system architecture with the signal list and the hardware used. Interactive version: pneumatic test bench case study online.
