Case study: people counting in a public square with an ESP32 PLC and LoRa

Case study of a design proposal to count the people who enter a large public square, so that public events can be planned. Photocells at the accesses send pulses to an ESP32 PLC with a LoRa board. The PLC adds one to the counter of the access for each pulse, keeps the totals and sends them on a fixed cycle over LoRa to the cloud, where the history of past events helps to forecast the next one. It is a design proposal and not the description of an installation, and the values are examples.

The PDF covers the challenge, the three stages (count, send, plan), the system architecture with the signal list and the hardware used. Interactive version: people counting in public spaces case study online.
