Case study: logistics automation with a Raspberry PLC

Reference design from Industrial Shields for the inbound flow of a logistics warehouse. One Raspberry PLC is the master controller: a USB barcode reader identifies each package at the entry, a TV in the warehouse shows its data, and the PLC drives the conveyor motors through a frequency inverter while sensors along the belt report where the package is. The PLC keeps its own database and runs its own server, makes backup copies to the cloud, and lets the main office send orders, on/off and emergency messages over the internet.

The PDF covers the challenge, the three loops (scan, sort, report), the system architecture with the signal list and the hardware. Interactive version: logistics automation case study online.
