Case study: smart street lighting with one controller per cabinet and GPRS

Case study of public street lighting telemanagement with the Smart Light Controller (SLC19R), designed and built by Industrial Shields. One controller in each lighting cabinet switches the circuits through the contactors on an astronomical schedule, reads a Circutor CEM-C21 network analyzer over Modbus RS-485 and watches the door, cable theft and protection inputs. Each cabinet sends its data over GPRS/GSM to a web and mobile platform, with no concentrators. Since 2022, city councils and provincial governments in Spain use it, and today it runs more than 300,000 luminaires.

The PDF covers the challenge, the three loops (switch, measure, keep going), the system architecture with the signal list and the hardware: the Smart Light Controller, the M-Duino 19R and the ESP32 PLC 19R. Interactive version: smart street lighting case study online.
