Case study: packaging line traceability with ESP32 PLC

Case study of a monitoring and traceability system on three food packaging lines built with Industrial Shields equipment. ESP32 PLCs read the weight sensors (total units and packed weight), the batch number sent by the marking system, the count of packs in each case and a barcode scanner. When a case is complete it gets a unique case number, recorded in the PLC and in a central PostgreSQL database. The conveyor belts are controlled by PWM and encoders, and a 10.1" TouchBerry touch screen shows the production status in real time.

The PDF covers the challenge, the three loops (count, group, move), the system architecture with the signal list and the hardware used. Interactive version: packaging line traceability case study online.
