Case study: autonomous solar panels with Arduino PLCs, LoRa and a Panel PC

Case study of a reference design from Industrial Shields for autonomous solar panels. Each panel moves on two axes, with one motor for each axis. The sun positions are calculated in advance and loaded into the PLCs with the Arduino IDE. One M-Duino Ethernet PLC Arduino 19R+ drives each PV group and sends its data over LoRa to a master PLC. The master sends the data over Ethernet to a TouchBerry Pi Panel PC as HMI and to a cloud server. A DC/AC inverter feeds the AC distribution lines, and a DC/DC converter charges a battery bank.

The PDF covers the challenge, the tracking and monitoring loops, the system architecture with the signal list and the hardware used. Interactive version: autonomous solar panels case study online.
