First Steps with Modbus

First Steps with Modbus

Modbus is the language most field devices already speak: energy meters, drives, sensors, SCADA systems and other PLCs. This course teaches how it works and how to implement it on Industrial Shields PLCs, as master or slave, over RS-485 (Modbus RTU) and Ethernet (Modbus TCP).

What you will be able to do

  • Explain coils, discrete inputs, input registers and holding registers, and choose the right function code.
  • Wire a Modbus RTU bus over RS-485 and a Modbus TCP network.
  • Implement a Modbus master and slave with the Arduino IDE (Arduino and ESP32 PLCs).
  • Implement them on Raspberry PLCs with Python, Node-RED and C.

Who it is for

System integrators and engineers who connect PLCs with field devices or SCADA systems. Basic programming knowledge is enough.
