SMART LIGHT CONTROLLER

Public lighting system with Arduino industrial PLC

Tell me more>>

The Smart Light Controller allows full control over the operation and main parameters of the luminaires.

Using standards such as DALI and 12-24v you can connect with:

  • Drivers
  • Power supplies
  • Ballasts with dimmer

The PLC also allows you to have parameters information that are previously configured for monitoring, such as:

  • Power consumption
  • Tension
  • Current

It is also important to have notification systems, alerts or alarms, in case of any type of failure or incident in the luminaires.

Thanks to the Smart Light Controller you can have a complete view of the status of the luminaires.

Advantages in a Smart Light Controller controlled installation:

  • Greater flexibility of the lighting system.
  • Switching the luminaires on and off remotely.
  •  Control and monitoring of the infrastructures.
  • Energy savings of up to 60%.
  •  Better security.
  • Simple PLC installation in public lighting solutions.
  •  Use of existing power lines to send commands.
  •  10% additional savings in case of using LED technology.
  • Dim the lights thanks to network communication.
  • Resistance to external interferences.
  • Advantages of Public lighting system with PLC

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE HARDWARE SOLUTION

The performance and the capacity of a lighting automation system are determined by the range, data rate, noise immunity and routing capabilities of the PLC system.

A hub modem with a WAN connection, such as fiber or 2G / 3G wireless, communicates with a network of modems or nodes that control each lamp.

The range of the PLC modem determines the number of nodes to which the concentrator can communicate directly. The greater the number of nodes, the more efficient the system will be.

An electrical network analyzer monitors the voltage and current of three lines; this data is processed by the PLC and sent periodically via GPRS to the central servers so that it is possible to determine the status of the electrical network, detect possible faults and perform predictive maintenance.

The system is also automatic; when it detects anomalies in the electrical network, it can cut the line if necessary.

Additionally, two sensors have also been added to protect the installation: the first one detects possible openings of the electrical panel and the second one activates an alarm in case of cable theft.

The communication range on a power line is affected by several factors. Noise immunity is crucial to maintaining the essential characteristics of the automation system. By incorporating routing capabilities into the nodes, a mesh network can be established to allow the nodes connected to the hub to extend the network.
