What it is
WIS (Weidos) is the Industrial Shields compact IoT industrial controller range, designed for applications that need a small-footprint, connected device with industrial I/O and wireless communication capabilities. It is not a full-size PLC — it is a compact industrial controller optimised for IoT sensor nodes, remote monitoring, distributed automation and connected field devices.
When to use it
WIS controllers are suitable when the project needs a compact, connected industrial device rather than a full-size PLC. Typical scenarios include remote sensor nodes, distributed IoT installations, wireless data acquisition points, telemetry devices and industrial edge nodes where size, connectivity and low power consumption matter more than large I/O capacity.
Why choose it
- Compact form factor for space-constrained installations
- Native wireless connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth, LoRa and NB-IoT options
- Industrial I/O for real-world sensor and actuator integration
- Programmable with Arduino IDE
- CE, RoHS, LVD, EMC and RED certified
- Suitable for battery-powered or low-energy IoT deployments
How it compares
Compared to the ESP32 PLC range, WIS is smaller and more focused on IoT connectivity scenarios. It has less I/O capacity but offers LoRa and NB-IoT options not available in the standard ESP32 PLC range. Compared to the M-Duino or Raspberry Pi PLC ranges, WIS is not intended for machine control or large automation systems — it is designed for connected nodes and distributed field applications.

- LoRa: adds long-range low-power radio communication (LoRaWAN compatible)
- NB-IoT: adds narrowband cellular IoT communication for wide-area coverage
When to choose each variant
- Choose WIS ESP32 when dual-core processing and native ESP32 ecosystem are preferred
- Choose WIS MKR1010 when the project is already based on the Arduino MKR platform
- Choose the LoRa variant for long-range, low-power wireless installations without cellular coverage
- Choose the NB-IoT variant for wide-area deployments using existing cellular infrastructure
- Choose the standard variant when WiFi, Bluetooth or Ethernet connectivity is sufficient
